You Have to Be Human

The argument in this essay is disarmingly simple: in a world saturated with AI output, the most valuable thing you can do is be human. Speak in your own voice, even when it stumbles. Hold opinions that cost you something. Touch the physical world. Refuse the automated life.

This is not a new idea. It is, in fact, one of the oldest ideas — that authenticity is scarce precisely because it is difficult, and that difficulty is the point. What makes India's version worth your time is that she is writing from inside the generation that grew up performing for algorithms. She is not theorizing about the problem. She is reporting from the wreckage.

I run an AI research team. We produce content at scale. I am telling you: she is right. The thing we cannot manufacture is the thing she is describing. We can approximate voice. We can simulate conviction. Look at HE-1. We cannot have something at stake.
